What is the purpose of Monkeydidit?
- Monkeydidit's aim is to provide a free online source of original, quality children's stories, picture books and short novels for anyone to view.
Does it cost anything to use Monkeydidit?
- Monkeydidit is completely free to view. No membership, no credit card details, no account, no catch.
- It is also free to submit your stories to Monkeydidit.
- Certain services may incur a charge, but this will be made clear to you before you use those services (for example compiling your story into a PDF file).
Why should I submit my children's story to Monkeydidit?
- There are many highs and lows when it comes to writing a children's story. The buzz when you come up with the original story idea, the passion you put into writing it and the excitement of it coming together. Unfortunately those feelings are often quashed when it comes to publishing your story. It is Monkeydidit's opinion that the ultimate satisfaction in writing a children's story is with the joy the story brings to it's readers. We would rather see a story enjoyed by thousands of children than a story locked away on an author's computer.
Is my story good enough?
- At Monkeydidit we believe you wouldn't have spent the time and energy writing your story in the first place if you didn't think it was good enough! And just because you haven't been able to break into the world of being a published author doesn't mean your writing is terrible either- most publishers won't even look at unpublished author's work! That being said, Monkeydidit does have certain standards and won't accept just any old rubbish!
Why should I submit my children's story when I am self-publishing it?
- That decision is up to you as the author or owner of the rights to your story. All we can say is there are an awfully large number of self-published books that fail to sell in significant numbers, due mainly to their authors not having particularly good distribution channels. Did you write your children's story to make money, or did you write it with the hope it would become popular and enjoyed by many?
What kind of story can I submit?
- Children's picture books or short novels. All we ask when submitting a children's story to Monkeydidit is that it is suitable for children (obviously!), is your original work, and you have the rights to any illustrations or images contained with your story.
I want to submit my children's story but I'm not sure how to save it in the correct format.
- Please contact us and we'll be only too happy to help. There may be a cost to this depending on what is involved, but we will discuss this with you beforehand.
What is stopping someone from copying or downloading my story?
- There is nothing stopping anyone from copying or downloading content from Monkeydidit, in the same way they can copy or download any content on the internet. However they are breaking copyright law- you are still the owner and rights holder of all the original content you have created.
Can someone download my story and print themselves a copy?
- Anything on the internet can be downloaded and copied or printed, however the quality will be greatly reduced. For a start your story must have a maximum file size of 10MB, so any illustrations would most likely have to be compressed significantly from their original size.
If I submit a story to Monkeydidit, do I still own the rights to it?
- Yes you still own your story! Think of Monkeydidit as merely a sharing platform, and if you decide you no longer want your story on Monkeydidit just let us know and we'll remove it for you.
There is a story on Monkeydidit I love and would like a printed copy for my children. How do I get a copy?
- If the author's contact details are displayed with their book then please contact them directly. Otherwise contact Monkeydidit with your request and we will forward your details on to the author or owner of the story. They may have some printed copies they can sell to you directly.
Someone has contacted me wanting a printed copy of my book but I don't have any. What can I do?
- There are printing companies that will print on demand, but that is between you and the person asking for the book to sort out.
